Happy Memorial Weekend everyone!

Stars and Stripes Forever

Today is May 25th and is the anniversary of my younger brother’s motorcycle accident and his death. He was in a coma for two days and was taken off machines on this day. It was back in 1984.
Life would be very different if he was still alive. He brought so much energy to everything he did. I wonder why sometimes such wonderful, productive, positive, high energy people have to leave us so soon.
I got to spend this past weekend with my youngest brother. We went up north to support his oldest daughter who was having a breast cancer fund raiser. She just had a double mastectomy and has been in a lot of pain.
We took a day and went to a waterfall and he took a lot of photos. I have to get them from him. It was a wonderful weekend. I hope to have more weekends like that this summer.
Enjoy your weekend and please be safe.

Happy Mother’s Day! I am excited that this quilt photo has had so much interest. It is all hand pieced. I have taken photos of the front and blogged about the quilt but soon I want to photograph some of the hand stitching that went into the making of this top. It is in excellent condition. I was just showing it to my Tuesday quilt group – it was my turn to host this past week and we have a new member so I took a few quilts out of the hutch and we looked at this one pretty closely. I may never finish it just because I like looking at the hand stitch work on this one so much.

We went to the parade today and really enjoyed it. This parade is a highlight of the Spring for me. Some year I would like to get involved in the workshops Heart of the Beast has the few weeks before the parade. It was beautiful weather. A bit windy for those on stilts and the higher puppets. We’ve gone in past years in the rain and really cold weather. Today was beautiful.

Today was the 36th Annual May Day Parade and Festival in South Minneapolis. The parade isĀ  put on in conjunction with the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood. I have a cousin who lives across the street from the park. It has been a tradition to stop by his place for a visit and then go over to the park.

The theme this year was UPROAR! “an embrace of all people joining together with collective strength for the present and future health of this world”. It was fun because there were a lot of puppet tigers in the style of a Chinese dragon. The folks in the parade would go around and get the spectators to roar! We did our share of roaring today! There has always been a diverse group of participants in the parade. I did see a celebration of different cultures possibly more so than other years. It is one of the aspects that has always drawn me to the parade.
