She needs an outfit to wear…elegant or simple?

I saw her at the thrift store. I have not purchased many dolls lately. I did not buy her the first two times I went.She has a crack under her mouth.

and she is missing her other hand.

When I was still in high school I would dream about going to a school on how to fix dolls. I saw an add for a school in the back of a doll magazine or maybe it was even BH&G.

Isn’t she just beautiful!

I was standing there looking at her. She had the price tag for 19.99. I was thinking should I ….or shouldn’t I.

Then a sales woman came by and said, “this doll has been here for a few weeks already. I was just going to mark her down. I she did. Half off. It was fate. I brought her home with me and I haven’t regretted it one bit! Does anyone know anything about these dolls? I haven’t taken the time to do any research yet at all.  The front of the tag has Composition Boudoir doll Goldberger.

Here is the stamp on her back. I know enough that most dolls are marked either behind the neck or on their backs.

Here she is again. Maybe one day soon I will take a trip to a local doll hospital and look around and reminisce on a dream I once had.

And now she needs a dress to wear. Should it be elegant or simple.  Maybe I could make an undergarment dress with white and cream fabrics and lace? I like to make quilts. I am just finished the table topper in the background of these photos. The last time a sewed any clothes it was in Home Ec class in high school!

Red Quilts From the Tuesday Quilters Group

We had so much fun showing off our red quilts to each other. We had a little bit of everything. Hawaiian applique, pieced stars, applique hearts, tied pillow,  doll quilts, wall hangings and full size quilts. I enjoy sharing this time together. This picture shows what a great time we were having…especially the two front right. They were sharing a little inside joke about the Hawaiian “fertility” quilt!

One of our members lived in Hawaii for a few years. She continued to be an active member in exchanges through the mail while she lived there. She is very knowledgeable now about this type of quilting style.

There are 12 of us total. One member is a nurse and has a hard time making it to all the meetings. Our other missing member has moved about 45 minutes out of town and doesn’t drive at night any more. She just emailed us and said she will need to drop out of the group. Well we have always had a motto “Once a BABE, always a BABE”. There is a wonderful quilt shop in the town she lives in so I do see us getting together there at some point this upcoming year.

This heart quilt is so wonderful. I like the different tones of white, creams and tans for the background.  The hearts looked stuffed to me as well. I didn’t get a close enough look at it while we were together. When we meet at her house again I will have to get a closer look.

With the left over fabrics she made a little doll quilt. She has a number of little doll beds in her house that this will look lovely on.

This is one of the larger quilts. There was  a story that came with this one too because she said she was running out of white fabric and originally was going to run this diamond border all the way around the quilt. I really really really like it this way.

I just don’t know if I could ever do a two color quilt this large and sew the same block over and over.

I like to design as I go and be creative with fabric choices on a scrappy type quilt.

I do absolutely LOVE this. I just  think I would have to make one block a year and it would take me……….  6 X 8……….48 years! I would be almost 100 years old by then!

Here is a smaller quilt. It is about the same size as the one that I made. Although she has a binding on hers.

My small quilt I made back in February. Each block is a different red and each white is different as well. Some of the fabrics are more on a valentine theme. I think I will make it into a small pillow. It is tied.

With this I say I hope your Christmas was very MERRY,  I hope those celebrating Hanukkah enjoyed the lighting of the Menorah candles and time with family, I hope that those that did not celebrate the birth of Jesus used the holiday to give a gift or to spend time with a loved one and I hope we all prayed a prayer for tolerance and for…

I found a few candle holders that are Santas. They go with a collection I started a few years ago.

I started this group about 3 years ago when I went out looking for ideas to decorate our mantels. We have a fireplace upstairs and one downstairs.  There was more fire above the fireplace in this photo than there was inside!!!

Santa candle holders..which I have enough of but…..

  I first went over to the dishes and looked for Pyrex. There was one clear glass bowl. Not the one you see here. This one is not Pyrex but I need it for cereal in the morning. We have broken three bowls in the last few weeks.

Karen had asked me to keep an eye open for a ceramic Christmas Tree. I had seen one a week or two ago at a different thrift but didn’t know at the time she needed to replace her husbands mother’s tree that had broken. I found this one for 2.99! It needs a few bulbs and the light for inside. My mom made one years ago. She loves doing ceramics and makes us a Santa every year.  I am going to ask her help in getting some bults and a top star for this one.

These two Scottie doggies are just adoreable!

They say 7.99 on the bottom of each of them. They were in a bag together for 2.99. Our niece has the cutest dog name Rio and the white puppy looks just like him. This will be a gift to their family along with another baby block ornament I purchased a few weeks ago that has a Scottie dog on it too.

This little elf did not have a price tag but I took it up to the front and asked for a price. The woman said “Oh, this is vintage…. $1.99″ I bought iit! It will look great with some of the others I already have.

This is a music box I will wrap up for my son as a Calendar gift. He really likes this. I will also wrap the Christmas book at the top of this page. We can then open one up Decembers 1st and the other December 2nd and we can then read a bed time story to Toy Land music.

This tree skirt looks vintage but it is not. It was the most expensive item I purchased at $5.99. It will look spectacular under my vintage trimmed tree.

Butterfly Gold is the pattern I have the most of.  My sister has the plates. I am going to ask her is she would like these pieces. I don’t know if she will. I know she uses the plates as her daily settings.

I just purchased the butter tub recently and could not figure out why it had the wide brim.  I recently saw pics added to the Pyrex Love Flickr group that shows the lid. I don’t have it but it sure would be nice.

I have two different styles of the cups.

One is called Butterfly Gold mug (D-handle) it is the one to the right.

The cup on the left has no design to it but has the nicest opaque hue.

I really like the way the light catches the cup and bounces off.

I picked up the chicken scratch samples at the same time as these two cups. I really like them.

Old Orchard

The Federal Eagle bowl is the one in the photo with the single eagle on it.  My brother Kevin had an eagle chain that he wore all the time. After he died my mom wore it for years. We have a war memorial near our home that was renovated this year. The new flag pole now has an eagle on the top and it has uplighting at night time. It looks great when we drive by.  It was wild this summer when they had the dedication ceremony a live eagle was flying overhead just as 3 Blue Angel planes flew over. It was one of those things that happen that you stand there in disbelief.  Majestic and awesome.

The Early American collection is by far my favorite. I especially like the kitty on the while bowl.

The Town and Country design is really sweet because it is a stitchwork pattern.

The Daisy dish is the only one so far that I have purchased at an antique store. All the other dishes have been purchased at my local thrift stores.  The golden yellow bowl above I think came from my Mr’s family along with the Town and Country divided casserole dish.

The bag was stapled together so I could not see what was inside…. but, I bought it anyway.  I knew it was chicken scratch but I had no idea what the design was with it being stapled shut.  I started a Chicken Scratch Gallery on Flickr about 2 years ago.  I had just purchased a gingham apron a few days ago with a very nice design on it. I  also have gingham from a garage sale from a few years ago. The fabric is in a vintage suitcase.

Pink tags were 50 percent off. This bag had a pink tag and was priced $1.99. I thought at least the fabric would encourage me to take out my other fabric and go through it.

  I opened the bag taking off at least 5 staples to get at it.

When I saw the hearts I have to admit my heart started to beat a little faster!

I was thinking to myself maybe the fabric will be large enough that I could try my hand at making my own apron.   

I hadn’t even opened the block up all the way and I was so pleased! Look at how fantastic this block it. Do I make a quilt out of these? They are nice enough to be made into a quilt.

Look at this! Oh my goodness. Jackpot. I love it.

I was really getting excited because I knew there were more in the bag.

I can’t believe my good fortune.

Could the next one  be as beautiful as the first?

Looking at it closer I could not believe how much work someone must have put into making this.

This one has the edges turned over.

I have always wanted to try this.

I think I scored….big time!

I then found my second Pyrex cup.

The first one a found in the last two weeks.

I have to turn the cups over yet to see if they are Pyrex. It won’t be long and I will know them by sight.

Now if you would like to stop by for a cup of coffee. We won’t have the same style of cup but they will both be Pyrex!

Since school starts the day after tomorrow I could not pass up color pencils and a huge bunch of pencil – already sharpened.

I have two of them I just displayed in my bedroom hutch. I will open one of these to put with the others.

I haven’t purchased a miniature chair in a long time. I have quite a few. This one spoke to me. I like the “earthiness” of this one.

ON my drive home from work on Thursday I had a few minutes because our younger son’s football practice was only 1 hour and they had left the field already. I ran over to Pier One to just walk around.  I collect blue glass and I like to go see what they have in the store. Well at $8.00 per glass I didn’t purchase any. The next day I saw these at the thrift. They are mine now.  At Pier One I did get a very nice lawn art bird that was on clearance. I was noticing there is not much color in the flower beds right now.

She  looks kind a regal and majestic to me. The forsythia is getting some new growth toward the bottom. It has grown so much this summer. I hope it has a lot of flowers next spring.

I picked up this shelf. I am not certain where it will go at this point but I have a very nice piece of antique quilt that I purchased in Boston 25 years ago that has been put away in a cabinet. It think it work fit in here and look very nice.

See the jewelry on the bottom right. I was wearing a pink shirt while shopping with the prettiest necklace I picked up at the same thift this summer. I never liked pink on me but as I get older I seem to like it more.

I like bangles a lot and the bracelet will go to my niece.

I believe you can never have to many scissors!!!! Especially when you can not find one right away. It seems I need them all the time.

This shirt was picked up for the fabric. It will go into a couple quilts.

And today will be all about football. Our son will be on TV playing against Southern Cal. #14 WE LOVE U!

I like the way they did the hem. They just pulled the fabric up and then folded it down again and sewed the hem and pulled some threads to make the fringe. Gotta Luv It!

I used to love going on the teeter totter as a child. I haven’t even seen one in years.

My son said yesterday for the first time this summer “I’m bored”.

It brought a smile to my face. I wish I had summer boredom.

I had 3 brothers and a sister. We used to spend so much time playing outside. We spent all kinds of time with our little red wagon….pushing and pulling.

Ok I went thrifting a few days ago and kept thinking about this crocheted butterfly with the vintage lace pillow. I had to go back and see if it was still there….and of course see what other treasures I could find.

It was still there! I LUV it. I am thinking I will take it off this pillow and put in on one of my crazy quilt patches in the sunflower quilt.

I just had to get this wheelbarrow small pillow.

I have always wanted to make some pillows like this one.  It only cost 99cents. I couldn’t make it for this price.

I would like to some day have an entire collection of pillows made with plaid fabrics.  Why NOT!

I purchased my first Pyrex cup! I have been looking for one and finally!

I can always use another casserole  dish. I like this design so much. I don’t know if I already have anything in this design but I think I do.

Look at that great bracelet!

I can’t wait to fix this bracelet. It needs to be restrung and I may even put new spacers between the bobbles.

I ended up buy 4 shirts for myself today….the only time I can do that is when I get to shop without a 9 year old tagging along. He likes to go hand out by the toys but It does inhibit my ability to just look around.

Again, I just had to buy it. This blouse has a sunflower theme to it. It has a very artistic feel to it. I am looking forward to putting an entire outfit together.

I have always like the combination on blue with the mustard yellow. This blouse also has a very artistic feel to it. I have the perfect long black skirt to wear with it. Fun fun fun!

Not the bangles. They are kind of my thing.The red one I got about a yaer ago. It is black on the inside…..it is so cool.  Also thrifted.  The beaded one was my Christmas gift from my boss at work. Each employee got a different one. The black bangle I just thrifted this past week. It has the stretch elastic on it so it it easier to get over my wrist. I have some bangles that hurt when I put them on. They are a bit too small.

and since we are on black. This blouse has the neatest black lace all across the back. I won’t be wearing this to work….but I think I know someone who will like it. I have the perfect black spaghetti strap top to go underneath it.

So….what have I missed telling you about. Oh, yeah. Some little pants for Fionna (my GREAT niece). I will write more about them later.
